PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to announce two new exhibitions in February featuring work by Susan Whiteman and Dan Hausner. Susan Whiteman is the headlining artist in the Main Gallery with “Tread Softly, Travel Lightly” while Dan Hausner exhibits “Moments and Places” in the Community Gallery located at The Strand Center for the Arts at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh. Both shows will be on view from February 13th to March 13th, 2015. The opening reception for these exhibitions will be held February 13th, 2015 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Susan Whitman began painting when she was fifteen and has always held the practice dear to her heart even though she has a degree in Medical Assisting and works in pediatrics when not painting.Whiteman’s dedication is clear, as she is a member of the Society of Decorative Painters, was juried into the Olana Plein Air Festival last year, belongs to Saranac Lake Artworks and regularly participates in their Studio Tours and Plein Air Festivals. When asked what her motivation for painting is, Whiteman stated “I was brought up in upstate New York, and was taught to love and appreciate the landscape and to me painting is a natural extension of that. I hope to leave a record of some of the wonderful things that still surround us in this time of change.” Her upcoming show at The Strand Main Gallery, “Tread Softly, Travel Lightly,” focuses on her collection of oil paintings and pastels depicting scenes of rural landmarks and pastoral landscapes.

Paired with Whiteman in The Strand Community Gallery is “Moments and Places” by Dan Hausner, a photographer and woodworker from Gabriels, New York. Hausner’s photography reflects the beauty of the Adirondacks not only pictorially, but in the handcrafted frames he fabricates for select prints. Each photograph is carefully paired with just the right combination of matte and frame so that all three work in unison. Like Whiteman’s work, Hausner’s also follows a moment that can be felt in nature, stating “My photos capture the unique feeling of a particular place at the moment when the image was taken.”
