Holy Week and Easter Services at Peru Community Church

The Peru Community Church is pleased to announce special Holy Week and Easter services. All services and events are open – all are cordially invited to join with us in worship at any time.

The Palm Sunday services on March 20, at 8 am and 10:30 am, herald the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.   Interim Pastor Rev. David Svenson’s ‘Modern Word’ is titled “It’s Party Time”. Palms will be distributed to all. Sunday School for all ages meets at 9:15 am. Palm Sunday Brunch (all-you-can-eat) will be served in the Fellowship Center from 9 am to 1 pm; cost is $8 for adults, $5 children 5-12; under $5 free.

On Maundy Thursday, March 24th, at 5:30 pm, a Seder Meal with readings will be held in the Fellowship Center, recalling the Last Supper. The Service of Shadows – Office of Tenebrae at 7pm in the Chapel includes readings and Communion.  The service ends in silence after all the candles are extinguished.

On Good Friday March 25th, at 8 am, the weekly Communion service will be held in the Church office.

On Easter Sunday, March 27th, celebrate the Resurrection with services at 8 am and 10:30 am – “He is Risen Indeed! Hallelujah”, with Pastor Dave’s sermon titled “Is There a Life Before Death?”. The choir sings at the 10:30 am service. Coffee Hour follows each service in the Fellowship Center; no church School on Easter Sunday.

Note also that the community-wide Ecumenical Sunrise Service will be held at 6 am Easter morning at St. Patrick’s Oratory (Mother Cabrini Shrine), on Patent Road between Reservoir and Mannix Roads, Peru.   Father Alan Shnob of St. Augustine’s Parish will give the Homily. Assisting in the service is Rev. Dr. Robert E. Svenson, former Peru Community Church Pastor and current Interim Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Plattsburgh.

The regular schedule of Sunday services at 8 am and 10:30 am, with Sunday School at 9:15 am for all ages, pre-school through adult, resumes on April 3 and continues to Memorial Day, at which time the summer schedule of one service at 9 am is in effect until the Sunday after Labor Day, here at Peru Community Church.
