TO THE EDITOR:

The North Country Honor Flight Committee would like to thank everyone who made the 1st Annual “Cabin Fever” gathering of World War II and Korean Veterans a tremendous success. On Saturday, March 19th 46 veterans (with family and friends) who have flown to Washington DC over the past 4 years met at Plattsburgh High School for a special get together with music, lunch and a chance to spend time with their peers. They enjoyed the entertainment of “Lone Star” who donated three hours of their time to perform 50’s and 60’s music which had many of the veterans and their spouses dancing to. Unfortunately, the breakdancing, worm dance and limbo contests had to be canceled due to the fact that most of the veterans had eaten to much delicious Baked Ziti provided by Zachary’s

This event was co-sponsored by the Plattsburgh High School National Honor Society and Key Club. Members of both clubs assisted in serving the special guests and a special thank you goes to the Plattsburgh City School District and any and all from the district who assisted.

There were many businesses who made donations which made this day so successful. Thank yous to: Zachary’s, Texas Roadhouse, Prays Market, Mickey’s, Arnie’s, Valley Vending, Pepsi, Sam’s Club, Price Chopper, WalMart, Hannaford’s. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came to help set up, serve and clean up. As usual the NCHF committee showed up in full force, not only to volunteer, but to also to maintain their friendships developed through this great program.

Special Thanks to Cynthia Nadeau for Memorabilia table, Serge Bouchard and “Lone Star” for their services which gave the day a special touch, Andy Steuart from Zachary’s who donated, prepared and helped serve the Baked Ziti for over 150 people. Finally, a special shout out to Tina Coryea who’s vision, hard work and attitude was the impetus for this outstanding event.

Lastly, to our veterans who’s sacrifices, efforts and dedication allow us to have the freedoms we have. We will never be able to repay you in full but we can try to do the best while we can.

“If your can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank a veteran”.

NOTE: NCHF flights this year will May 14, June 4, June 18 and Sept. 10.

Sincerely,

Clifford “Joe” Staves

Honored member of the NCHF Family
