Peru Community Church – Holy Week and Easter Services

The Peru Community Church announces special Holy Week and Easter season services. We welcome everyone – all are warmly invited to join in worship and Church-sponsored events at any time.

The Palm Sunday services in the Sanctuary on April 9th at 8 am and 10:30 am, herald the triumphant entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. The Rev. Peggi Eller will provide a sermon entitled “No Ordinary Day in Town”. Palms will be distributed to all. Sunday School for children will meet at 9:15 am. The Annual Palm Sunday Brunch will be on-going from 9 am – 1 pm in the Church’s Fellowship Center.

On Maundy/Holy Thursday, April 13th at 5:30 pm, a Seder Meal with readings will held in the Church’s Fellowship Center, replicating the Last Supper’s Passover meal. Those attending are invited to bring a dish to share to complement the ceremonial Passover meal.

On Good Friday, April 14th at 7 pm in the sanctuary, a Service of Darkness in the form of a musical cantata, “Hope in the Shadows” will be held. The choir, narrator, and congregation will recall the increasing darkness of Jesus’ walk to and death on the Cross as candles are extinguished; the service ends in darkness and silence. Communion will be served at 8 am in the Church Office located in the Church’s Fellowship Center.

Also, an outdoor Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 am on Sunday, April 16th will be held at the Peru NYS Boat Launch on Route 9, ~3926 Route 9, between Rock and South Junction Roads. Communion will be served as the sun rises on Easter day.

On Easter Sunday, April 16th, in the Sanctuary with services at 8 am and 10:30 am, the joy of the Easter Resurrection is celebrated. The Rev. Peggi Eller will offer a reflection entitled “Seeing is Not Always Believing”. The choir will sing at the 10:30 am service. Coffee and Conversation follows each service in the Church’s Fellowship Center. Sunday School classes will not be held on Easter.

The regular schedule of Sunday services at 8 am and 10:30 am, with Sunday School at 9:15 am for all ages, pre-school through adult, resumes on April 23rdand continues to Memorial Day, at which time the summer schedule of one service at 9 am will be in effect until the Sunday after Labor Day.

We welcome all to join in our worship experiences including Holy Week offerings. Please contact the church office at 518-643-8641 or office@perucommunitychurch.com, for more information or if questions.
