So Vermonters can check the weather? Who cares. WPTZ can't bring itself to show NY lottery results. I say they should move to Vermont.

The fire trucks went up the Reservoir Rd tonight, 12/23. It was a terrific site, and I'm glad they do it.

Hi, Noel the Elf/Santa's helper, here. I was Santa's little helper for about five to six years, I believe and I loved every minute of it. I would lead Santa and Mrs. Claus off the fire truck and into the Fellowship Center. We would leave the fire station and park at the Checker Farms Store on the corner of the Bear Swamp Road until we got word to proceed down the hill to the tree. Some nights it was very cold. I had the whole outfit including the beard so no one, except those who knew me, did know who I was--certainly the children didn't. To them, I was "Noel, the Elf."

Thank you for the interesting article on mandated community service. I know for a fact that community service is sometimes the ONLY WAY to get a youthful offender to "pay" for their crimes. Many of these kids are unable to afford cash fines for their indescretions, and since they do not go to school or to work, they have the time to serve.

I am also lucky that I haven't gotten to the point that I see youth volunteers performing various activities and automatically assume they were forced to by court. I know many kids (including my own) who willingly serve where ever they are needed!

Thank you, John, for your work with the Gazette. Happy Advent ~
