#1 recording stars in Peru next Saturday night

Posted on November 13, 2008 by John T. Ryan

Their songs have topped the charts, they’ve performed at the Grand Ole Opry and they’re coming to Peru next weekend. The Gibson Brothers will perform at the Peru High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008. The Peru Community Church Ladies Guild is sponsoring the concert to benefit their many community outreach programs. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at Green Acres Bakery, the Peru Pharmacy, from Jane at 643-9294, at Arnold’s Store in Keeseville or from any Ladies Guild member.

2008 has been a good year for the Gibson Brothers band. In April, the band made its third Grand Ole Opry appearance and their recently released album “Iron and Diamonds” was the #1 bluegrass album in October according to “Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine.” In fact, the last four Gibson Brothers’ albums have made it to #1 in the charts. Discussing their upcoming November 22nd appearance in Peru, Eric Gibson said, “We’ll sing several songs from our new album including the Tom Petty song “Cabin Down Below” and our own song “Iron and Diamonds” about Lyon Mountain miners and ballplayers.”

Eric and Leigh Gibson formed their band in 1991. The brothers grew up on an Ellenburg Depot farm and began playing music in their early teens. Today they’re full-time musicians performing all over the United States (36 states to be exact). The band consists of five musicians. Mike Barber plays the standup bass, Kentucky native Clayton Campbell plays the fiddle and Jessie Brock will be the mandolin player for Saturday night’s concert.

Concert proceeds will go to a good cause. The Peru Community Church Ladies Guild sponsors or supports such programs and activities as the Adopt a Family Program, the Interfaith Hospitality Program serving the homeless, Thanksgiving dinners for the needy, Christmas toys for children and funeral receptions at the Community Church Fellowship Center.
