Peru School Superintendent asks clubs to curtail non-essential fund-raising

With many families in the region being mindful about money matters, Peru Central School District’s Superintendent of Schools A. Paul Scott recently sent a note to faculty advisors and officers of student clubs at Peru Central.

Given the economic downturn, this may be an ideal time to curtail fundraising efforts which are not essential, according to Scott. “For example, any student club that has a healthy fund balance should reduce or postpone fund raising at this time.”

Superintendent Scott asked them to be mindful of the impact of fund raising on local residents. He suggested student clubs consider fund raising this school year only when fund raising is identified as necessary. If a student club or organization has adequate funds, Scott suggests postponing some fund raising, or substituting community service, such as leaf raking, as an alternative to asking residents to purchase goods from out-of-town vendors. Scott said the school district appreciates the strong community support for public education and student clubs evidenced in recent years. His request to faculty advisors and student club officers is keep the community members in mind this school year, when decisions by student clubs and club officers are made regarding fund raising during this challenging economy, according to Scott.Click here for the full media release
