Town park parking ordinance passed; owners of unlicensed dogs will be fined

By Donald McBrayer

The Peru Town Board Held its Regular Meeting on May 24 at 7:00 PM.
Minutes for the May 10 Meeting were approved and can be found at: http://d1091839.domain.com/PeruTown/min10/05-10-2010-RM.pdf

The Agenda contained 18 Items that included:

  • Tabling a Motion for a Deed Acceptance from Cortland Forrence for a Trail Easement.
  • Passing the Town Park Parking Ordinance that restricts overnight parking in Peru’s recreational areas. The Ordinance can be found at: http://d1091839.domain.com/PeruTown/towndocs/Park-Parking-Ordinance.pdf
  • Discussed two bids for work on the Lapham Mills Field Backstops. The bids so far are $3655 and $3188.
  • Approved a Motion approving Jim Dynko for Umpiring.
  • Discussed the proposed Dog Control Law. Town Councilor Brandy McDonald informed the Board no Court Surcharges would be applied to fines generated by the proposed law. This is because the proposed law is a Town Law, and not governed by NYS which attaches court surcharges. The Board also agreed that dog owners ticketed for unlicensed dogs will still have to pay a $25 fine even if they license the dog before the ticket appearance date. Work on the proposed Dog Control Law is continuing.
  • Reported the NYS Ag & Markets Dog Control Officer Inspection Report came back marked as “Satisfactory”.
  • Highway Superintendent, Mike Farrell expressed a concern about beginning work on Fuller Road and Quaker Highlands Road. The work could exceed $200,000, which would be covered by CHIPS funding, but failure of passage of the NYS budget places the awarding of the CHIPS fund in uncertainty. Mr. Farrell will be working with the Town Board to best plan for the possibility of lacking funds for this year’s proposed roadwork.

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM.
