Churches unite during Walk of Faith

By John T. Ryan

Peru’s Annual Walk of Faith was held on Sunday, October 3rd with eighty-six members of the St. Augustine’s Church and the Peru Community Church participating.  Christa Reyell, Regent of the Catholic Daughters of Americas which sponsors the Walk said, “We had a beautiful day and raised over $600 that will be divided between the Peru Community Church’s Jamaica Project and the North Country Mission of Hope.” Reyell was very pleased with the day’s joyous atmosphere saying, “The Peru community is filled with so many wonderful people. It was so great to see everyone come together.”

A prayer service led by Reverend Alan Shnob and Reverend Robert Svenson was conducted before the Walk began. James Carlin of the North Country Mission of Hope and George Burrell of the Jamaica Project thanked everyone present for their support. Reverend Oliver Daley, Pastor of the Jamaican Church which coordinates the Jamaican Project invited members of St. Augustine’s Church to get involved with the Jamaica Project. Every January about two dozen Peru Community Church volunteers travel to Jamaica where they construct a home and assist in other community-service projects.

Christa Reyell thanked the many people responsible for the day’s success. She said the Walk of Faith would not have been possible without our Walk of Faith Planning Committee (Fr. Alan Shnob, Vikki and Ken Defayette, Theresa and John Guynup, Karen and Pete Glusko, Julie and Gary Liberty) and all the help of our Walk of Faith volunteers (The Knights of Columbus Council 7273, music provided by Adam Blaine: our Guest Speakers, Peru Emergency Medical Team, Lynn and Ann Wilkie,  Thomas Reyell (filling in whereever I need), Norman Torrance (crossing guard), Don McBrayer for our microphone sound system, as well as our area businesses who donated items for our Walk: Forrence’s for the apples, Adirondack Coffee Roasters for the coffee, and Frosty Springs Bottling Company for the water).
