Wonderful news for the Alice T. Miner Museum

The Alice T. Miner Museum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 24, 2010! It has been a long journey for the museum Board, staff, and volunteers, and we wanted to share this great news with you.

The State and National Registers promote heritage tourism and appreciation of historic resources. The benefits to The Alice for inclusion on the Registers include:
– Official recognition that the property is of significance to the nation, the state and the local community.

– Listing will raise the community’s awareness and pride in it’s past.

– The Alice will receive a measure of protection from state and federal undertakings – agencies must consult with the State Historic Preservation Office to avoid or mitigate adverse effects to listed properties. (For example, road projects are restricted from encroaching on the property.) Government agencies are responsible for avoiding the effects of projects on properties listed on the registers. Listing raises awareness of the significance of the property, helping to insure that preservation issues are considered early and effectively in the planning process.

The Alice T. Miner Museum, constructed 1923 – 1926, is historically significant under:

Criterion A for the important and long-standing role it has played in cultural and educational history of Chazy.

Criterion B for association with William H. and Alice T. Miner, who played a significant role in nurturing and enriching the cultural, educational, physical and social lives of area residents throughout the first half of the 20th century (and beyond through their endowments).

Criterion C for its high of architectural integrity, remaining essentially unaltered since its construction in 1926:
– as an architectural style, it is an exceptionally intact example of Colonial Revival style residential architecture
degree
– as a property type, it is an excellent example of an early 20th century house museum, which has maintained that function uninterrupted since its construction.

Come for a tour of this wonderful museum and experience the excitement first hand!
