Town of Peru restricts highway travel for heavy vehicles

The Town Highway Superintendent has informed the Town Board that in order to protect certain town roads it is necessary to exclude certain heavy vehicle traffic for limited periods of time during the year .
Beginning March 14, 2011 and until such time as the Town Board directs otherwise the following town roads shall be closed to any vehicle having a gross weight of over ten-thousand pounds per axle:

The Town Board may in its discretion issue a permit providing an appropriate exemption to such vehicle if it is deemed that such vehicle is performing an essential local pick up or delivery service and that the failure to grant such a permit would create a hardship. Every permit may designate the route to be traversed or contain other reasonable restrictions or conditions deemed necessary Every permit shall be carried on the vehicle to which it refers and shall be open to inspection by any peace officer acting pursuant to his special duties or police officer. Such permits shall be effective and valid only for the duration of the road closures.
