NCCCA ARTS CENTER EVENT: “Theatre for Youth Movie Premiere: Spring 2012”

Plattsburgh – The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts (NCCCA Arts Center) is pleased to announce the upcoming culminating film premiere starring the students enrolled in its, “Film Performer” class.  For eight weeks, a group of thirteen students worked under the tutelage of theatre instructor Heath Powers to direct and star in a series of short movies that will be shown on the “big screen” at Cumberland 12 Cinemas in Plattsburgh, NY. They will arrive by limousine and have the chance to walk the “red carpet” at this exclusive “invitation-only” event.

Arrival by Limo/Red Carpet Reception:  Tuesday, March 6th, 2012, 5:15-6:00 pm

Movie Showing: Tuesday, March 6th, 2012, 6:00 pm

“This program provides a unique opportunity for area youth to create movies shown in a real movie theater,” says instructor Heath Powers, “and what makes it even more special is that their friends and families will get to see them on the big screen.  It wouldn’t be possible without the help of Craig Cathers, Manager of Cumberland 12 Cinemas for donating a screen for this film. ”

“This is the first time the Arts Center offered ‘The Film Performer’ in its series of acting classes and it’s been a huge success!”  Education Coordinator Jessica Mitchell-Briehl says about the evening, “I’m not sure who’s more excited for the film premiere, me or the kids!!”

In addition to producing a series of film shorts, “The Film Performer” introduced students to strategies for writing an attention-getting resume, tips and tricks for interviewing and auditioning, and camera responsiveness.  This upper-level course was formatted to introduce students to the world of tv and film, culminating with the end-of-term performance on March 6th.  In total, six movies will be shown in the hour-long featurette and include the following titles: “Rhyme-Time Diner,” “The Tooth Fairy,” and “Lies, Amy and Memories.”
