Tax Collection Hours Set & More

Peru – The Monday, September 10 2018 Peru Town Board meeting was one of the briefest in recent history. at 16 minutes.

At the Board’s last meeting Town Clerk Dianne Miller asked the members for any input they might have on the office hours she was proposing for 2019 tax collections. Miller said she is trying to make her hours as convenient as possible for the public. Tonight the Board concurred with her proposal.

The Tax Collector’s published 2019 office hours are as follows:

  • Mondays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Saturday January 26th – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Thursday, January 31st – 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Mrs. Miller said other arraignments can be made if these hours do not work for some taxpayers.

A Board Workshop on the sewer system upgrade was scheduled for September 20th at 6:30 p.m. AES Engineering and the town’s grant writer Liz Tedford will be present. The public is invited.

Both the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board do not have a full compliment of members. Code Enforcement Officer Bob Guynup asked the Board to fill any open positions since meetings might have to be cancelled due to the lack of a quorum. Cancellations can cause severe problems for a permit applicant.

Counselor Jim Langley reported that plans are underway to install new siding on the historic Lyon Street School. Town Historian Ron Allen solicited prices and a price has been submitted that is within his budget. More details will be provided for the Board’s next meeting.

CEO Guynup reminded residents that a building permit is required for both furnace conversions and furnace installations. Many people are switching to natural gas now that NYSEG is installing more lines.

A few hamlet residents asked Guynup if NYSEG would be repairing the soil torn up during the gas line installations. Guynup said NYSEG will repair soil and plant grass seed not longer than two weeks following any soil disruption.
