Logan signs Letter of Intent with Matt Barie looking on

Peru Senior and stand out wrestler Logan Dubuque has recently signed his National Letter of Intent and is receiving an athletic scholarship to continue his education and wrestle at NCAA Division II Belmont Abbey College in Belmont North Carolina just outside of Charlotte.

Dubuque started wrestling going on six years now and never looked back. Wrestling became a way of life for him. Coached by Mike Hogan and Gary Edwards, Dubuque wrestles year round also wrestling Olympic styles in the off season under the great Joe Demeo. He is a 2x NY STATE Olympic Style Greco champion and placed among the top 12 in the nation this summer @ 126 lbs. at nationals in Fargo North Dakota. At the end of his junior year in high school he is a 2x section 7 champ and placed 3rd @ 120 in New York at the NYSPHSA. (New York State Public High School Association). He is hoping to end his senior year in the same way if not better. He has also wrestled internationally in Sweden and Amsterdam.

While several colleges have shown interest in Logan on the D1 and D2 level, Dubuque says, “I visited Belmont Abbey this summer; it’s beautiful and I got to meet the coaches (Kenn Caudell and Randy Deangelo) I was able to stay overnight with a couple members of the wrestling team and fell in love with everything about it. It just seems like the perfect fit for me all around. I’m excited they saw potential in me and I get to continue doing what I love (wrestling) for the next four years at this level. It just felt like home”.

While attending Belmont Abbey, Dubuque is also going to be committed to the ROTC Airforce program. “I knew paying for college was on me and the ROTC is making it possible for me to get a great education while not going in to debt, I’m proud to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps by serving my country. I will graduate college as an officer and hopefully be serving in the computer science field. I am really excited for my future and what it holds, I’ve worked hard to get to this point both on and off the mat. ”

Dubuque is a High Honors Student at Peru Central School and also a member of the National Honor Society. He is the son of Jennifer Dubuque of Peru and the grandson to proud grandparents Walter and Shirley Dubuque of Rouses Point.
