The Strand Center’s Juried Show “Bring Your Best!” Opens Friday, October 1

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Strand Center for the Arts annually hosts a juried show open to artists of all ages and mediums. This year, the theme of the show is “Bring Your Best!” and participants were encouraged to submit their best abstract or representational artwork for this competition. “Bring Your Best!” will be on view in The Strand Center Community Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from October 1 to October 29, 2021. The Opening Reception will take place Friday, October 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and is free and open to the public.

Entries were received in various kinds of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, ceramics, stained glass, printmaking, mixed media, and digital design. Over thirty local artists submitted their work for the competition in the hopes of winning a large cash prize and a solo exhibit at The Strand Center Gallery. Awards for Best in Show, Second Place, and Honorable Mentions will be announced during the Opening Reception on Friday, October 1, 2021.

The Strand Center is excited to have fine artist and professor, Ian Burcroff, as our guest juror this year. Ian received his B.A. in Studio Art from SUNY Plattsburgh and his M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His interest in images consisting of fragmented concepts both real and imagined that give a sense of movement within a two-dimensional space creates dynamic work with rapid visual changes. He is also passionate about being an educator and teaches art history, painting and drawing at Clinton Community College.
