Stefanik Meets with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and discussed Northern Border travel, North American energy security, and strengthening U.S.-Canadian supply chains to combat reliance on China.
“I am proud to welcome Prime Minister Trudeau today alongside my bipartisan colleagues. Canada is not only America’s closest ally and neighbor, it is an essential partner to New York’s North Country,” Stefanik said. “I appreciate Canada’s partnership in reopening the Northern Border and have urged bilateral coordination and continued progress towards fully restoring cross-border travel. I remain committed to strengthening the longstanding relationship between the United States and Canada to ensure a smooth reopening of the Northern Border, maintain North American energy security, and strengthen the supply chains between our two countries on behalf my constituents in the North Country.”
In the meeting, Stefanik recognized Canada’s recent leadership on cross-border travel and encouraged Prime Minister Trudeau to drop Canada’s COVID-19 test requirement that continues to burden cross-border travel.
“I am optimistic and pleased that Prime Minister Trudeau was very familiar with my office’s effective advocacy on this issue, and I look forward to progress on this important priority,” Stefanik said.
Now that both sides have reopened the Northern Border, she reaffirmed her commitment to working with our Canadian allies to ensure reopening goes as smoothly as possible and rebuild our confidence in our cross-border relationship.
This month, Stefanik stood up for our Canadian allies as the Biden Administration approached ending Canada’s Enbridge Line 5 pipeline at the expense of North American energy production.
