NYS DOT is installing an ADA compliant sidewalk along Main Street
Peru, NY August 21, 2026 – A New York State Department of Transportation contractor has been working along Main Street (State Route 22) this week. The contractor is building an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)- compliant sidewalk from the Main Street bridge to the Main Street-Bear Swamp Road intersection. The five-foot-wide sidewalk will have ramps where necessary, and pedestrian push-buttons will be installed on the east, west, and south sides of that intersection. The contractor will be removing the flower bed in front of Liberty’s Garage. The project is expected to take about three weeks. It should permit easy access to the Bear Swamp Road sidewalk for everyone.Posted: August 21st, 2026 under Business News, General News, Highway Dept.
