PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Town of Plattsburgh, in partnership with the Clinton County American Legion, invites the public to attend the 3rd Annual Purple Heart Day Ceremony on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Battlefield Memorial Gateway Park. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.

This meaningful event honors the courageous men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of the wounds they sustained or the ultimate sacrifice they made while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The ceremony will feature brief remarks, moments of reflection, and an opportunity for community members to come together in remembrance and gratitude. A highlight of the evening will be a community reflection lap along the Purple Heart Trail, providing attendees with a chance to honor the service and sacrifice of Purple Heart recipients in a meaningful and unified way.

Established by General George Washington in 1782, the Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military decoration still awarded to service members. It recognizes members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in action while defending our country. The annual ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the bravery, resilience, and selfless service of these heroes, ensuring their sacrifices are remembered for generations to come.
