The Peru Lions Club will be hosting its 17th Annual Stanley Hughes Golf Classic on Sunday, September 11th at The Barracks Golf and Country Club at 12:00 p.m. The tournament is a four-person scramble with a team handicap of 40+.  Cash prizes are awarded for 1st,  2nd and 3rd places.  There will also be prizes for closest to the pin and closest to the line.  A buffet dinner will follow the round.  Cost is $65 per person.  Barracks members are $35.

Congressman Owens announces USDA Disaster Designation for Upstate Farmers

PLATTSBURGH – Congressman Bill Owens today announced a secretarial disaster designation for Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Oswego, Oneida and Lewis counties.  The designation from USDA immediately triggers the availability of low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Services Agency (FSA) and the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE) to eligible agricultural producers in all primary and contiguous counties to help them recover from production and physical losses.  Physical losses include, but are not limited to, dead livestock and collapsed buildings.  Read more »

Enjoy Sunday night music in Peru

The Town of Peru Concert Series continues on Sunday, August 21st with the music of Towne Meeting. Towne Meeting is a 5-member band with powerful vocal harmonies. Their musical roots are in folk but the band branches out into many other genres, from acoustic rock to country.  Formed in Plattsburgh, NY, in 2006, the band has gained a following throughout northern New York, as well as the capital region and northern Vermont. The concerts are free and begin at 6 p.m. at the Little Ausable River Park Gazebo in the center of Peru.

Town of Peru water violations continue; solution promised

VIOLATION NOTICE

The Town of Peru has to sample quarterly for total trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids to comply with the disinfection by-products rule for E.P.A. and New York State.

Test results for the 2nd quarter of 2011 exceeded the allowable maximum contaminant levels.   Results are calculated by averaging the previous 4 quarters’ results.  The current results represent the average of the 3rd & 4th quarters of 2010 and 1st & 2nd quarter of 2011. Read more »
