Santa arrived in Peru last night aboard a beautifully decorated fire truck

Children enjoyed singing carols in the gazebo

Children enjoyed the carol singing

By John T. Ryan

The Peru Youth Commission’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting (click here for photos) was held before its usual large crowd on Friday, December 3, 2010.  Children, parents and grandparents crowded the Little Ausable Park to sing carols and witness the tree lighting.  At 7 p.m. the Peru Fire Department arrived carrying Santa. The Fire Department’s trucks were beautifully decorated this year making the occasion even more memorable. Santa led the children into the Peru Community Church Fellowship Center where he talked to them all and handed out candy canes.   Youth Commission Director John Flynn said he was grateful to many people for their support including the Peru Fire Department, town employees who decorated the gazebo and tree, the Back Porch Band who donated their wonderful talents, the youth commission volunteers, the Peru Community Church for donating the use of the Fellowship Center, to Tim Mitchell for providing the music in the Fellowship Center and to Santa who patiently spoke to the many children.

The Peru Gazette thanks Joanne Kennedy for her fire truck and tree photos.
