The Ladies Guild of the Peru Community Church is having a flower sale. We are selling geraniums- pink, red and white for $1.50 each and 6-pks of Impatiens red, white and mixed for $1.75 each. The deadline is May 23rd and the flowers will be delivered to the church the 26th for pick-up. Orders can be called into the church office at 643-8641 or people can stop by and place orders.

Peru has a 74% census response rate – Save the government money by sending in your forms

Census Update:
As of April 12 Peru has a 74% response to the 2010 Census compared to the nation average of 66%.
P.O. Box holders, may pick up a census form at the Town Hall.
Please mail in your Census form by May 1st.
Results from the Census help determine the number of seats each state receives in the House of Representatives as well as the allocation of over $400 billion of federal funds.

Need for Local Meat Processing Unites Northern NY Farmers, Processors & Economic Development Interests

Canton, NY — Northern New York needs USDA-inspected meat processing facilities, according to a late March meeting organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension and attended via teleconference by livestock producers, processers and community leaders in Canton, Watertown, Westport, and Cayuga County.

“Consumer demand for local food has increased the demand for locally-raised meats that are processed at USDA-inspected facilities and can be sold direct by the cut at farmers’ markets, to restaurants, and at the farm, not to mention on the internet. The challenge for North Country livestock producers, particularly in the fall and early winter, is a lack of available processing time at USDA-inspected facilities,” says meeting organizer Betsy Hodge with Cornell Cooperative Extension St. Lawrence County. Peru Lions Club donates to a worthy cause

Members of the Peru Lions Club conduct fund-raisers such as their Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot and their Election Day spaghetti dinner. On April 8th $1,000 of the money they raised was presented to Camp Tu-Kum-Ta Executive Director Ted Kessler. Camp Tu-Kum-Ta serves children between the ages of seven and seventeen who have cancer or have been treated for cancer. The children either live in Vermont or must have been treated for cancer in Vermont. Kessler said 35% to 40% of the children the camp serves reside in Upstate New York. He mentioned Sabrina and Laura from Peru. Read more »

First “Live at the Library” Concert Scheduled

Please join Librarian Becky Pace and the Friends of the Library for the inaugural concert of the piano, celebrating its donation from the Provosts, and kicking off a new concert series “Live at the Library” series. Friday. It is going to be a very special evening on Friday, April 23rd. Adrian Carr, a Juilliard trained composer and pianist, will play his own compositions and share his stories. “As a composer and pianist, I work with music in a way which mixes my classical training with pop/rock culture creating a vibrant and emotional music. But what has added a whole new level of interest in my live shows is my story telling. Each of my albums is a story and each performance is a journey for me and my audience. I have performed in a variety of venues from Coffee Houses to Carnegie Hall.”
