Lawliss carries Peru big & Farrell wins

Family Court Judge Timothy Lawliss won the support of his hometown in today’s elections winning Peru by 613 votes over his opponent William Meconi. (1662 to 1049). Republican Candidate Michael Farrell defeated Democrat James Reed in the Highway Superintendent race by 203 votes (1283 to 1080). Voter turnout was extremely high ranging from 66% to 76% in the five districts. Assemblywoman Janet Duprey said the normal voter turnout in a Presidential election year is about 54%.

A scary time in downtown Peru

Bill Downs is well known in Peru for his work with the town and his leadership of the Fire Department. However, this is the fourth year Bill and several of his family and friends entertained both children and adults with their scary creatures and scenes at Bill’s home at the corner of Main St. and the Bear Swamp Road. The Peru Town Board will hold a public hearing on its 2009 preliminary town budget on Thursday, November 6th at 7 p.m. Copies of the budget are available in the Town Hall. The Peru Gazette will publish budget details within the next several hours.

Emergency Town Board meeting to set budget hearing date

The Peru Town Board has called an Emergency Meeting for Thursday, October 29, 2008 at 6 p.m. for the purpose of setting a date for the public hearing on the 2009 town budget. The meeting notice in today’s “Press Republican” incorrectly stated that the publc hearing would be held this evening. The town is required to give a five day notice prior to this public hearing.
