Friday afternoon fire destroys one Forrence Orchard barn, but firefighters save several adjoining barns

March 3, 2023 – Peru and firefighters from several other departments are on the scene of a barn fire this afternoon at Forrence Orchards south of the Peru hamlet. The firefighters have been able to save several adjoining barns. A Forrence employee noticed the fire at about 1:20 this afternoon. The barn was used for storage, the field office and the breakroom. Fortunately, Forrences had moved several tractors out of the building a few days ago. McIntosh Forrence said the building dates back generations to when his family bought the farm from the Laphams. At that time it was a dairy barn. Roger Forrence and his family once lived in the brick home in front of the barn.
