Peru – December 2, 2022 – It was fun at Little Ausable River Park tonight as the Peru Girl Scouts sang Christmas carols and Mrs. Marti Cabana lit Peru’s Town Christmas Tree. Just as she was about to throw the switch, the Peru Fire Department’s decorated trucks passed by. The kids were excited.
Dianne Miller, Peru’s Town Clerk, was the MC. Town Supervisor Brandy McDonald and Counselors Jim Douglass, Melvin Irwin, and Rick Barber also enjoyed the festivities.
A few of our trucks will be out doing the lighted Christmas parade starting at 6 pm. The schedule is as follows:

Peru – The new Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW) Kingdom Hall is now in use, and the Witnesses invite the public to the meetings held there. People seeking meeting times can look on the organization’s official website, jw.org. In addition, the Jehovah’s Witnesses will host an open house in spring 2023. The Hall is located at 2623 Route 22, south of Peru.
Volunteers came from throughout New York to work on the project and from Vermont, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Erin Spoor of Peru was one of the many volunteers.
Highlights of Peru Town Board’s November 21, 2022 Meeting

The legal process of demolishing the derelict property at 5 School Street continues. The board scheduled a December 29, 5:30 p.m. public hearing to inform the public of its plans.
The town will light its Christmas Tree at Little Ausable River Park on Friday, December 2, at 7 p.m. Marti Cabana, wife of the late town justice Larry Cabana, has the honor of throwing the switch.
Peru’s annual tractor parade will take place on December 10, beginning at 6 p.m.
Highway Superintended Michael Farrell reported that the Telegraph – Sullivan Road culvert replacement project is almost complete. He expects to remove the barrios in a few days.
Water-Sewer-Parks Superintendent Courtney Tetreault reported that the Elm Street sewer project is almost complete; however, Luck Brothers will need to do a little paving and sidewalk repair on or near Lewis Street next spring.
Supervisor Brandy McDonald reported that Peru maintains its A+ bond rating when Peru borrows money for capital expenditures. A high rating is essential in obtaining the lowest interest rates.
The board approved payment #3 of $429,742.15 to Luck Brothers for its work on the Elm St. sewer project.
The Town of Peru Town Board has scheduled a Public Hearing on a Local Law to administer and enforce the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and the State Energy Conservation Construction Code.
New York State made several building code changes. The town is required to put the changes into place through a Local Law.

Minimum Standards for Administration and Enforcement
EFFECTIVE December 30, 2022
The Department of State had filed a Notice of Adoption of a rule repealing and replacing Part 1203 of Title 19 of the New York Codes, Rules, and Regulations. The Notice of Adoption appeared in the December 29, 2021 edition of the State Register. The Notice of Adoption can be viewed on the Department of State’s website at: https://dos.ny.gov/state-register.
The rule will become effective on December 30, 2022.
As a reminder, local governments should update their code enforcement programs by local law, ordinance, or other appropriate regulation.
