Right out of high school,Chuck joined the Army with a dream of jumping out of airplanes. Scheduled to be in Korea, he was accepted into jump school.
He volunteered for Vietnam making many jumps as an Infantry Paratrooper in the 82nd and 173rd Airborne Divisions.Chuck went into combat with full ruck and a weapon longer than his body.His wife Sandy lovingly calls him Rambo with the photos to prove it.
For his valor, Chuck received several medals including a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Parachutist badge.

The Harkness United Methodist Church has great news for almost everyone… the widely popular Chicken & Biscuit Dinner will return to the Harkness Church Hall (776 Hallock Hill Road, Peru) on Sunday, October 16th, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm!
The reason it will be good news for almost everyone is that the dinner will be served as Take-out only. Rather than risking the health of in-house diners, the “Chicken Team” has opted for the drive-through option this year. Although the socialization and fellowship in the dining hall have been popular for many, it’s a fact that for the past several years, the majority of dinners sold have been To-Go. All dinners will cost $10 and consist of delicious chicken and gravy with a baking powder biscuit, mashed potatoes, squash, peas, coleslaw, and a cupcake.
Because a large turnout is anticipated, an orderly traffic flow will be essential for all to safely collect the delicious meals, so guests are asked to please pay close attention to traffic directions signs at the four corners in Harkness. State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua and the New York State Police today announced that Nancy Berger, 55, formerly the Clerk/Treasurer of the Village of Norwood, was arrested for allegedly stealing $73,725 from the Village.
“Nancy Berger is accused of stealing funds from the Village of Norwood, a violation of her community’s trust and an abuse of her position as a public official,” DiNapoli said. “Thanks to my partnership with the St. Lawrence District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Police, we will make sure that justice is served on behalf of Norwood’s residents.”
“I will continue to work with the State Police and Comptroller’s Office to hold the defendant accountable, rectify the financial losses incurred by the Village of Norwood, and assure the people of Norwood that my office will work to restore confidence in its public servants,” said District Attorney Pasqua.
Berger is accused of stealing the funds between 2018 and 2022 by writing Village checks to herself. Her alleged theft was initially uncovered by the Village and she resigned from her position shortly after in June 2022. Berger was appointed Clerk/Treasurer in January 2017.
This case was reported by the Village to the St. Lawrence District Attorney’s Office, which then contacted the Office of the New York State Comptroller.
