Graduates prepared for rewarding health care career, earn associates degree
PLATTSBURGH, NY (7/11/2022) – The University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) School of Radiologic Technology awarded diplomas to five students on June 30 at its 56th Commencement Exercises, which returned to the hospital auditoriums for the first time since the pandemic.
The graduates include Caiden Goodman of Morrisonville, Hannah Gordon of Mooers, Austin Kirby of Keeseville, Alissa McGovern of Burke and Brooke West of Champlain.
“I consider it a privilege to participate in the development of the next generation of radiographers,” Director of the CVPH School of Radiologic Technology Betsy Lombard, MA, RT (R)(M) offered. “Our program is rigorous and requires commitment and excellent time management skills. To see things “click” as our students assimilate new knowledge and then put it into practice is very rewarding. We are very proud of our graduates!”
All five graduates have jobs they are excited to begin, including three who are staying at CVPH: Gordon, Kirby and West. Goodman is relocating to North Dakota for his job, and McGovern is heading to Potsdam to start her new career in radiology.
Since 1965, the CVPH School of Radiologic Technology has trained radiographers in delivering exceptional patient care. In addition to being prepared for a rewarding health care career, graduates also earn an associates’ degree from Empire State College in math, science, and technology. It is a 2 year program that combines class time and practical experience.
The CVPH School of Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and approved by the New York State Department of Health to train radiographers eligible for a New York State license. For more information, call the school at (518) 562-7510 or go online to UVMHealth.org/CVPH.

From the CVPH Foundation
The demand for health care workers has never been greater in the North Country. To help fulfill this demand, The Foundation is investing in the next generation of health care in northern New York. It has awarded $70,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors and hospital employees.
The Foundation is providing $12,000 to 13 2022 high school graduates pursuing careers in health care. More than half are seeking degrees locally, including CVPH School of Radiologic Technology, Clinton Community College and SUNY Plattsburgh. Nursing, radiology, biology for pharmacy and medical school tracks and biomedical technology are among the programs these students will be studying.
It’s important to think about what to do for a career, and for some students, that will hopefully be a life dedicated to providing the best care possible right here in our community. We are thrilled to help these amazing young people down that path. None of this would be possible without your generosity.
A total of 28 hospital workers will also receive $58,000 combined in funding from The Foundation, including 16 Registered Nurses (RN) seeking to continue their education and two Clinical Assistants studying to become Registered Nurses. Radiology, Patient Registration, Emergency Management Services, the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Unit, and Occupational Health and Wellness are other departments with employees applying for and receiving financial support.
These employees are increasing their knowledge, improving clinical skills and gaining new experience for the betterment of our patients and community. Thank you for supporting their education goals and desire to grow professionally. Ultimately, it is the people seeking our care who will benefit.
Education scholarships are available to any CVPH employee seeking financial assistance with pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree, taking a course or continuing education that will improve and strengthen their role at the hospital. Scholarships are available for high school seniors in Clinton and Essex Counties. All applications are reviewed by The Foundation Scholarship Task Force and total awards are made based on available funding each year.
