Assemblyman Jones distributes COVID-19 testing kits throughout the North Country

From the office of Assemblyman Billy Jones
As the North Country experiences a record number of positive COVID-19 cases, testing sites and vaccination sites continue to work on overdrive to provide important resources to keep the community safe. Last week, a new state testing site opened at Plattsburgh State and one opened in Malone a week earlier in response to the high demand for tests, and both Clinton and Franklin counties continue to hold vaccination clinics to help everyone get vaccinated and get their booster shots. There were also several COVID-19 testing distribution events held throughout the North Country last week to get more tests into the hands of people in the region.

There are many people throughout the North Country who needs tests but were unable to attend test distribution events that were held throughout the region last week. Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay Lake) is working to make sure that more people can obtain testing kits. “There are people who have been working throughout the pandemic, who have been essential, like those who work at grocery stores and convenient stores who were not able to take the time out of their schedules to wait in line to get a testing kit,” said Assemblyman Billy Jones. “These are people who worked the frontlines every day. It’s important that everyone, especially essential workers, have access to COVID-19 tests to help keep our communities safe.”

This weekend, the assemblyman handed out testing kits throughout the district. On Saturday, the assemblyman also delivered PPE and essential supplies to the United Way of the Adirondacks to make sure that vulnerable populations also have access to the resources they need. The Assemblyman’s office delivered testing kits on Monday throughout Clinton and Franklin counties while the assemblyman was working in Albany. They distributed the testing kits at grocery stores such as Yando’s Big M in Plattsburgh and Price Chopper in Malone. Tests were also distributed to the Child Care Coordinating Council of the North Country, MHAB, the Champlain Valley Family Center, the YMCA, Citizens Advocates, Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, Catholic Charities and several other places as well.

“When you are already struggling to put a roof over your head and food on your tables, or are working hard to stay in recovery, or are responsible for taking care of everyone’s kids while they are at work, the last thing you need to stress over is trying to find COVID-19 testing kits,” Jones said. “These are the organizations that are out in the trenches taking care of the North Country’s most vulnerable and it is the least I can do to make sure that they have COVID-19 tests as positive cases continue to increase across the region.”

Assemblyman Jones will continue to hand out COVID-19 testing kits throughout the North Country this week to help make sure that people have the resources they need. “The counties and municipalities have done a great job so far distributing COVID-19 testing kits,” said Jones, “but they only had a limited supply. I will continue to advocate for more testing kits and other important resources to make sure that our municipalities and school districts have what they need to keep our communities safe.”

Story Update 01/11/21 at 9 a.m. The store’s new manager Dawn Andrews said the store will reopen Wednesday, not Tuesday. Goods sold in the freezers and refrigerators will not be available until at least this weekend. All frozen and refrigerated goods are being totally restocked.
Peru Code enforcement Officer Robert Guynup ordered the store closed on December 3, 2021, when its interior temperatures reached the low 40’s and merchandise carts blocked an exit door.

Updated Local Guidance for Isolation and Quarantine

Plattsburgh, January 10, 2022. Clinton County continues to experience a high number of new daily COVID-19 cases. The Clinton County Health Department (CCHD) is working to complete case investigations as quickly as possible. However, with the significant increase in cases coupled with the revised NYSDOH guidance for shortened isolation and quarantine, it is very likely many new cases will not receive a call from CCHD or the NYS Virtual Call Center (VCC). CCHD and the VCC are prioritizing calls to the highest risk cases.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, stay home and isolate yourself from others for 5 days from symptom onset. Tell your close contacts that you have COVID-19 right away so they can monitor for symptoms. If your symptoms are improving, you may discontinue home isolation on day 6 but you must continue to wear a well-fitted face covering and social distance whenever around others for another 5 days. All household members that are not fully vaccinated, including a booster if eligible, should stay home for 5 days from their last interaction with the positive case and monitor for symptoms.

If you need isolation paperwork and have not received a call within 5 days of your test date, please connect with CCHD through this secure online form: https://form.jotform.com/220063385752151. If your information can be verified in the state’s contact tracing system, you will receive your isolation information within 36-72 hours. This is for laboratory tests only. Do not use this link to self-report results of an at-home test.

If you complete the secure on-line form, in addition to receiving your isolation paperwork, you will receive a text message request to enter your close contacts. Please complete this task; your contacts may receive a call from a VCC contact tracer with further instructions. Whether they receive of call or not, all contacts who are not fully vaccinated, including a booster, if eligible, should stay home for 5 days following the last interaction with the positive case.

If you have tested positive using an at-home test, stay home and isolate yourself from others for 5 days from symptom onset. If your symptoms are improving, you may discontinue home isolation on day 6 but continue to wear a well-fitted face covering and social distance whenever around others for another 5 days. You do not need to seek additional testing unless you require isolation paperwork.

School cases are being prioritized as higher risk cases. To help families make the best decisions, if you have a child who has tested positive, please keep them home from school and extra-curricular activities for 5 days from symptom onset. Any siblings that are not fully vaccinated, including a booster if eligible, should quarantine for 5 days from their last interaction with the positive sibling. If siblings develop symptoms, they “Working Together for a Healthier Community” – 2 –

should be tested and/or stay home from school and extra-curricular activities for 5 days from their symptom onset.
