Free Webinar Explores Genetic Testing and Breast Cancer

Manal El Daouk, MD, Wendy McKinnon, genetics counselor to speak 

PLATTSBURGH, NY (10/19/2021)Genetics, Breast Cancer and You, a webinar planned for Wednesday, October 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. will be presented by Manal El Daouk, MD, FACOG, of the University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) Family Medicine Center and Wendy McKinnon, MS, CGC, Certified Genetic Counselor, University of Vermont Medical Center, Familial Cancer Program.

The webinar will focus on the role genetic testing can play in assessing the risk of breast cancer as well as the criteria for its use. Dr. El Daouk will also offer an overview of the options available to women who are determined to be at a high risk for the disease. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

In addition to her busy gynecological practice, Dr. El Daouk serves on CVPH’s Commission on Cancer (CoC) committee, which is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients. McKinnon works with individuals and families offering genetic counseling and testing to those concerned about inherited cancer risk.

Seventeen additional positives and one more death bringing Clinton County’s COVID-19 related deaths to forty

Since our 10/18 update, 17 additional lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive cases have been reported. CCHD has received notification of an additional COVID-19 related death of a Clinton County resident. This death bring the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Clinton County to forty.

– CCHD offers free COVID-19 vaccine clinics every Thursday from 10:00am to 12:00 noon. To register call 518-565-4848. To schedule a Pfizer booster, visit www.clintonhealth.org/covid19vaccine.
– Local Vaccination data: https://public.tableau.com/…/viz/Covid-Draft/Dashboard. According to the North Country COVID Vaccine Dashboard 103,475 total doses of COVID-19 Vaccine were given in Clinton County as of 10/3. As of 10/3, 66% of all Clinton County residents had at least one dose of the vaccine and 63% of residents had completed their vaccine series. 76% of residents 18 years and older have received at least one dose.
– NYS Percentage positive results: https://forward.ny.gov/percentage-positive-results-county…. According to NYSDOH 674 people were tested in Clinton County on 10/17. As of 10/17, 7-day average % positive in Clinton County = 4.2%.
