Clinton County Jan 8 COVID-19 Report: Lab-confirmed positive +50, Deaths +1, Percent Positive 7.8%

Since our 1/7 update, 50 additional lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive cases have been reported. CCHD has received notification of a COVID-19 related death of a Clinton County resident. This death brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Clinton County to nine.
Do the right thing to protect your friends, family, and community. You DO NOT need a public health order to separate yourself from others. If you have tested positive or know you have been exposed to a positive case STAY HOME and away from others. CCHD is working as quickly as it can through new positive cases but can no longer connect with all new cases on the day it receives test results. Connection with contacts may take longer. Please be patient.
Note: Our next case update will be provided on Monday, January 11.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Jan. 7 COVID-19 Update

January 7, 2021
The increase in infection rate post-holidays is here and is problematic in and of itself, but when combined with the newly found UK strain in NYS and with the federal government’s refusal to contain more cases by instituting common sense testing requirement for international travelers, our work has become more complicated. Even with this new challenge, New York is staying tough, and working with the health care community to ensure hospitals do not become overwhelmed. Remember that we are in a footrace between COVID and the vaccine. It’s as important today as ever that we collectively stay smart and commit to taking the steps necessary to stop the spread.
Photo of the Day: The “New York Tough” sign is displayed at the Barclays Center during the Nets vs. Jazz game (Photo courtesy of BSE Global/Brooklyn Nets)
Here’s what else you need to know tonight:
1. Total hospitalizations fell slightly to 8,548. Of the 238,550 tests reported yesterday, 17,636, or 7.39 percent, were positive. There were 1,424 patients in ICU yesterday, up 16 from the previous day. Of them, 859 are intubated. Sadly, we lost 197 New Yorkers to the virus.
2. To date, New York has administered approximately 430,000 vaccine doses. New York hospitals had previously jumped in administering an average of 10,000 doses per day to approximately 30,000 per day. Yesterday, hospitals administered approximately 50,000 doses in one day. This is good progress, but hospitals must do even more.
3. The Department of Health continues to test for the UK strain of COVID. After an individual in Saratoga County, NY, tested positive for the variant, the Department of Health has undertaken extensive contact tracing efforts. As of today, no other positive cases have been identified of the UK variant of SARS-CoV-2 (the official name of the virus that causes COVID-19).
4. SUNY Downstate’s University Hospital successfully administered 100 percent of its weekly COVID-19 vaccine allocation. SUNY hospitals have been especially successful in quickly administering their allocation, and I commend them. It is crucial that hospitals administer the doses they have as fast as they can so we can vaccinate all our health care heroes.
Tonight’s “Deep Breath Moment”: In January of 2020, New York City performing artist Taylor DeNapoli had a mission for the year—to create a video performance to release on the 17th day of every month of the year, her lucky number. Even though the pandemic heavily impacted the entertainment industry, Taylor met her goal and continued sharing videos of choreographed performances featuring Broadway performers and other New York City artists. On December 17th, 2020, Taylor released her twelfth and final video of her “Video of the Month” series. Watch it here.

Peru Federal Credit Union Opens New Building in Keeseville

By John T. Ryan

2015 – New Building in Peru

2018 – New Building in Au Sable Forks

2019 – Office in Keeseville

2020 – New Building in Keeseville

The above dates dates chart the Peru Federal Credit Union (PFCU) as it expands its services in southern Clinton and northern Essex County. Credit Union Chief Financial Officer Maggie Pope commented, “‘Our new motto is All Roads Leads to PFCU.”’ The new branch office is located at 1716 Front St. in the middle of historic downtown Keeseville.

What made this growth possible? Maggie Pope said, “I think the Au Sable Forks branch was an eye-opening for many people. We’ve also enjoyed great support from the Keeseville area.” When the TD Bank closed its Keeseville office in 2019 the PFCU responded by opening a temporary office at 187 Pleasant Street. Keeseville area residents responded with many new memberships, deposits and loans.

Maggie Pope expressed appreciation to the Town of Chesterfield and Steven Fuller Construction for their tremendous support. Town approvals were timely and construction was completed on schedule.  Groundbreaking took place on August 25, 2020.

The Peru Federal Credit Union serves anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school or volunteers in both Clinton and Essex Counties.  ATMs and Drive-In windows are operational at all branches. Lobby service is by appointment because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Peru call 518-643-9915, In Au Sable Forks call 518-825-2265. In Keeseville call 518-825-1354.

Stec Appointed Leading Republican on Environmental Conservation Committee

Will also be ranking member on Senate Children and Families Committee

State Senator Dan Stec (R,C,I-Queensbury) today announced that he has been appointed the Ranking Republican on the Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee for the 2021 Legislative Session.

Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt made the appointment Wednesday, which marked the first day of session in Albany.

“A few weeks after winning election, I contacted Senator Ortt requesting to be the lead Republican member on Environmental Conservation,” said Stec. “I held the same post in the Assembly, so I’m very familiar with the issues that come before the committee. Representing much of the Adirondack Park and having seen a lot of it firsthand as a ‘46er’, I know this is a good fit. I met with the chair of the committee, Senator Todd Kaminsky, when he was in the Adirondacks last fall and look forward to working with him.”
Stec also will be the ranking Republican on the Children and Families Committee.

“In my district, child and after-school care is a critical issue for many families,” said Stec. “Serving as ranker is a welcome chance to learn more about the many issues important to families across our state and to bring a North Country perspective to the discussion.”

Stec will also serve on the Banks, Education, Health and Libraries Committees.
