Peru – October 1, 2019 

Due to a loss of pressure resulting from a broken water main valve the following areas are under a precautionary boil water order. River Rd from Barney Downs to Ormsby Circle, Ormsby Circle, Old Town Rd, Oakdale Dr, Pinewood Dr, Hillside , Summit, Morgan Dr, Twin Creek and Barney Downs from River Rd to Calkins Rd.. There will be a boil water order in effect until two check samples have been approved. Updates can be found at www.perutown.com and on facebook at Peru Gazette.

The Town of Peru Water Dept. is working to restore water pressure in Quaker Springs by 8 p.m. Department personnel are repairing a leaking valve at the corner of the Barney Downs and Calkins Rd.

Home located at 75 Connors Rd. in Peru was fully involved in flames and/or smoke. Video at 2 p.m. Sept. 30, 2019, Peru, Morrisonville and South Plattsburgh Fire Departments were on the scene at 2 p.m.

Many people worked hard to make the 2019 Applefest a success. I helped recruit volunteers. One booth I never have to worry about is the hot dog, burger and french fry booth. For many years Patty Henry has worked very hard herself and staffed the booth with Peru High School students. It’s extremely busy for two days meaning everyone has to work very hard and maintain their cool.

Two of Patty’s volunteers deserve special mention – Jay Chase and Alex Hebert. They worked non-stop with a great attitudes and smiles in very hot conditions for two days. They’re a credit to Peru High School and to their families. I told them they have great future ahead of them. They’re not afraid to work!

Thank you Patty, Jay and Alex. Your sacrifice of time and talent is appreciated and deserves to be recognized.

Peru – Peru Town Councilman Jim Langley is not seeking reelection to his seat on the Peru Town Board. Langley said, “I”m a grandfather and I’m going to be a grandfather again. (Langley’s daughter Tiffany is expecting her second child). It’s been long enough. I’ve appreciated my time in politics and that people thought I had something to offer.” Langley also believes the current town board has the best interests of the town in mind.

The 2019 Peru Athletic Hall of Fame dinner will be on October 19th at the Plattsburgh Moose Lodge 90 Sharron Avenue.  Social hour is from 6 to 7 pm with dinner to follow.  Please contact Cathy Phillips to make reservations at 518-963-7963 or 518-572-1235 asap.  This year’s inductees are Bob Way class of 57, Donny Duprey class of 72, Tom Everett class of 72, Mary Millet class of 76, Michelle Rouchleau class of 89 and Ben Sabourin class of 95.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has announced grant funding for the former Clinton County airport site from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The $1,500,000 in new funding is anticipated to create 150 new jobs and leverage $15 million in private investments. As a result of the funding, 30 acres of a former airport will be re-developed, including the construction of new road and stormwater infrastructure.

“This new funding is a great opportunity for the town of Plattsburgh,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “These are competitive grants, and I applaud all of the local government officials and partners who put in a great effort to re-develop this area and bring economic diversification to Clinton County. I am proud to be an advocate for economic development in the North Country, and I will continue to be an outspoken supporter of these initiatives in Congress.”
