Washington, D.C. – Today, Representatives Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) and Peter Welch (D-VT), announced that VT residents Seth Albertus and Dalton Benjamin – students at Northeastern Clinton Central School in Champlain, NY – have been named the winners of the 2018 Congressional App Challenge in NY-21.
“I am excited to announce that Seth and Dalton’s hard work and innovation has earned them the honor of showcasing their winning app in the U.S. Capitol for visitors from around the world to see,” said Congresswoman Stefanik, Co-Chair of the Congressional STEAM Caucus. “Training in STEAM is essential for preparing students for the high-skilled careers of tomorrow, and this great achievement is proof of the valuable work being done by the teachers at Northeastern Clinton Central School. I am confident that Seth and Dalton’s accomplishment will inspire other students to pursue education in computer science.”
“I am so impressed with the talent and creativity of young people across Vermont, who are learning important skills to prepare them for tomorrow’s economy,” said Congressman Welch. “Congratulations to Seth and Dalton, and I look forward to seeing their wonderful innovation in the Capitol.”
Seth and Dalton’s application, “My Augmented Life,” uses augmented reality technology to bring 3-D objects to real-world environments. This application can be used by a variety of industries, such as interior design, which would utilize the application’s augmented reality technology to place 3-D modeled furniture into various interiors. Their winning application will not only be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building but will also be featured on the Congressional App Challenge website. A video demonstration of their application can be viewed here

Plattsburgh Rotary is searching for one or two families in the Peru School District to host our student from Brazil. Leticia is 17 years old and attending Peru where she is involved in volleyball and will be joining drama club next week. She is fluent in speaking English. Each family would host her for 3 months beginning in January or March.
The student has her own spending money for incidentals and family would provide a home for her. We are especially looking for homes with other young people.
There is an application process in place including background checks for all adults in the home aged 18 or older.
Please call Shelley Fracalossi at 645-3475 or email Rotary12901YE@gmail.com.
