Host families sought for exchange students

The CCI-Greenheart Student Cultural Exchange Program is looking for host families for the 2013-14 school year. “Be a part of a rewarding experience for both your family and the exchange student,” local organizer Scarlett McBride said. McBride and her husband have hosted exchange students and found it to be a wonderful experience for their entire family. Mrs. McBride resides in the Peru Central School District, but host families from any school district are eligible. Donald McBrayer, Democrat James Douglass and Democrat Lana Knight will vie for two town council positions.  John Lawliss and Democrat James Kirby are the only nominees for the two town justice positions.  The Democrats nominated Kregg Bruno to oppose Incumbent Supervisor Peter Glushko and John Facteau to oppose incumbent Kathy Flynn for the Town Clerk/Tax Collector position. Incumbent Republican Highway Superintendent Michael Farrell was nominated by both parties.

Owens to hold Telephone Town Hall tomorrow – All questions are welcome; sequestration, jobs and economy likely topics

WASHINGTON—Tomorrow night Congressman Bill Owens will speak with constituents during a live telephone town hall. The call is part of the congressman’s ongoing effort to connect with constituents across the more than 16,000 square miles of New York’s 21st Congressional District. Congressman Owens will give a short update on events in Washington as they relate to the Farm Bill, immigration reform and sequestration followed by live questions asked by constituents. The event will occur tomorrow evening from 7:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. 

“The best way to represent my constituents in Congress is to hear directly from them about the issues they feel are important,” Congressman Bill Owens said. “Telephone town halls are as informative for me as they are for participants and I encourage all who can participate to join me on the call. I am looking forward to the discussion.”

Tonight, a random sample of residents in New York’s 21st Congressional District will receive an invitation by telephone to participate in tomorrow’s conference call. Additionally, anyone from the 21st District can request an invitation in the follow ways:

· Emailing their name and complete phone number to ny21townhall@mail.house.gov;

· Calling the congressman’s Washington office at 202-225-4611; or

· Filling out the form provided at http://owens.house.gov/Contact/TeletownHall.htm .

Michael Higgins of Peru Named to Dean’s List at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for Spring, 2013, Semester

TROY, NY (07/30/2013)(readMedia)– Michael Higgins of Peru has been named to the Dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Spring 2013 semester. The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades below “C.” Higgins studies Mechanical Engineering.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1824, is the nation’s oldest technological research university.
