Peru – Peru Water Superintendent Greg Timmons said this morning that three day Boil Water Order for the Reservoir Rd, Barney Downs  and the Quaker Springs Development is in effect. Timmons will be taking water samples to the Clinton County Health Department today and he anticipates the Order being lifted tomorrow. The Boil Water Order commenced at 9 AM Wednesday.

Tuesday’s work at the water plant was completed in two to three hours and there was only a small drop in water pressure.  The Health Department’s Boil Water Order was precautionary, issued in case the work took longer than anticipated.  Workers installed several values and tees to reroute water and allow the water plant improvement project to proceed.

“In terms of substance, I expect the new legislative session to be
 very similar to the past two with a heavy emphasis on strengthening the 
economy and improving our business climate with the goal of job creation.
Because revenues remain weak and the full financial impact of Sandy is 
still unknown, I anticipate another fiscally austere state budget.

“In terms of style, I hope to see a continuation of the bipartisan
and constructive dialogue between both houses of the Legislature and the
 governor.  We have a lot of complex issues to deal with and, given our 
political and geographic diversity, differences can only be resolved if
 lawmakers are willing to accommodate other points of view.

“My focus remains on mandate relief, in particular giving schools and 
local governments more flexibility in managing through their own financial
 challenges.  Medicaid and pension reform mandate relief will help on the 
local level, in addition to some other smaller measures also already 
enacted, but clearly more needs to be done.”

Plattsburgh, NY – This week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that the United States and Canada have increased the maximum values of goods eligible for expedited customs clearance.  Under the new rules, goods valued at up to USD$2,500 and CDN $2,500, respectively, are eligible for an expedited border clearance program in both the United States and Canada.  Previously, this limit was set at CDN$1,600 for goods entering Canada and USD$2,000 for goods entering the U.S.

In addition, Canada announced an increase in its low-value shipment threshold to CDN $2,500 for exemption from North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Certificate of Origin requirements, bringing it in line with current U.S. levels. Both of these actions serve to simplify customs clearance procedures by harmonizing U.S. and Canadian policies.  More information is available here. Read more »

The water will be off Wednesday, January 9^th, 2013, in the following areas, Calkins Road, Barney Downs Road, Reservoir Road, Morgan, Hillside, Twin Creek, Oakdale, Pinewood & Old Town Road, from 9 am to 3 pm due to construction upgrades.  The shut off of services will be followed by a precautionary boil water order for 3 (three) days after.
