Saturday, October 13th, 2012, marks the running of the Second Annual Octoberfest Half Marathon and new this year the Octoberfest 10K. REGISTRATION HAS EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 1ST. The debates are as follows:
· Glens Falls market: 8 p.m. Sept. 25 in the auditorium of Queensbury High School, 409 Aviation Road. The one-hour event, sponsored by the Adirondack Chamber of Commerce is free and open to the public. It will be rebroadcast on Mountain Lake PBS at 8 p.m. Oct. 4.
· Plattsburgh market: 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Valcour Conference Center at SUNY Plattsburgh, 3712 State Route 9. The event will be broadcast live on WPTZ-TV and live-streamed on WPTZ.com, but is not open to the general public.
· Watertown market: 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Jefferson Community College, 1220 Coffeen St. This one-hour debate is a ticketed event, but is free of charge. YNN will carry the debate live on its Syracuse, north country and capital region stations.

The Peru Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its annual induction ceremony on Saturday, September 29th at Cricketts Restaurant. This year’s inductees include: Mike Hogan, Audrey Smith, Bob Finney, Julie Rock, Jephrey Doorey and Gary Edwards.

After 363 days of refusing to talk about Medicare, Matt Doheny has finally owned up to his support for dismantling the Medicare program and sending seniors into the private insurance market. In the incorrectly titled “Bipartisan Ideas on Preserving Medicare,” Doheny advocates for the purchase of private plans with Medicare dollars, but “in all instances, the federal government should pay insurers directly.” He goes on to say “This is not a voucher program,” in reference to Paul Ryan’s plan to force Medicare beneficiaries to purchase private health insurance with a voucher. Our country has a long, proud history of taking care of its most vulnerable citizens. Medicare is an important part of that promise, giving seniors and disabled guaranteed access to care and the dignity they deserve.
Sadly, our Medicare system is at a crisis point as spending grows twice as fast as our economy. Most members of Congress treat the program like a political football, pointing fingers while ducking the tough challenges that lay ahead. Read more »
