NYSEG and RG&E emergency planners are closely monitoring weather forecasts and preparing for the possible effects of Hurricane Sandy. Depending on the exact track of the storm, portions of the NYSEG and RG&E service areas could experience considerable wind and significant rainfall early next week. NYSEG and RG&E are concerned with the potential impact of falling limbs and trees on power lines and also with possible flooding that could affect both electricity and natural gas facilities. Burglars entered four homes in Peru and Schuyler Falls area over the past few days making off with guns, jewelry, and television – anything that can be easily picked up. An elderly neighbor receives lunch thru the meals on wheels.  Three new families are in line for the food pantry because no matter how hard they try the money isn’t enough to provide housing, utilities and food for the family. Families are in need of assistance with utility bills, disabled people can’t afford their insulin. Mothers need help buying winter coats for their young children and a young family learns that their son has cancer and needs to leave the state for treatment but they can’t afford the gas to take him.  A mother and her children flee for their lives and with the help of Stop Domestic Violence they have a safe place to stay and the emotional support they need to live a better life. Area youth attend meetings where they learn valuable life skills and leadership through the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Read more »

People attending the October 11^th Peru Town Board meeting learned that New Yorkers of all income levels as well as small businesses and non-profits can qualify for energy assistance, energy upgrades, special financing and cashback programs.
