Budget Workshop #6 for Peru Board of Education

Tuesday Night features a 6 PM Public Session Budget Workshop

The Peru Central Board of Education will gather Tuesday, March 27th at 6 PM in the community room for their sixth public session budget workshop, according to A. Paul Scott, Interim Superintendent of Schools at Peru Central. At its budget workshop the school board will:

A. Receive at the meeting a March 27th packet of updates regarding statewide budget development, related New York State Education Department and Legislative topics, the March 2012 NYSED Fiscal Accountability Report, forecasted 2012-2013 school year student enrollment and last week’s budget development workshop #5.

B.  Receive the revised set of six Budget Advisory Committee recommendations that reflect the Board’s recent outreach to our bordering school districts to further expand partnerships, as was discussed between the Board and its Budget Advisory Committee at the fifth budget workshop of March 20th.

C. Receive and consider the March 2012 revised second edition preliminary draft cost reductions list for July 1, 2012 forward, in response to continued scarcity of state aid revenues and in response to the first year of the state-mandated property tax cap threshold, July 1st forward.

Prior to adjourning Tuesday night, the Board is slated to go into executive session for a special meeting exclusively focused on the performance history of particular individuals currently under consideration for successor Superintendent of Schools.

Opportunities to Meet & Listen to Second Round Superintendent Candidates

As part of its search process for a successor Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education is conducting a set of three ‘open forum’ gatherings for school community members in the auditorium this coming week:

1. Wednesday, March 28th at 7:15 PM featuring second round candidate Patrick Kendell Brimstein, who currently is High School Principal for Wheatland-Chili School District of Monroe County, New York;

2. Wednesday, March 28th at 8:30 PM featuring second round candidate Christine Crowley, who is currently Superintendent of Schools for Duanesburg Central School District of Schenectady County, New York;

3. Thursday, March 29th at 8 PM featuring second round candidate Christopher Mazzella, who is currently High School Principal for Peru Central School District.

Those three forums offer opportunities for parents & guardians, employees, students and other district residents to meet and ask questions of the second round candidates. Each of the three candidates are slated to share their educational preparation, professional experience and preliminary vision for Peru Central School District.

School community members attending will be able to submit questions through a moderator for candidates to answer. Also, school community members at the forum will be encouraged to submit feedback for the Board to examine and consider.

Owens comments on White House decision to expedite southern portion of Keystone pipeline

From the Office of Congressman Owens

WASHINGTON – Congressman Bill Owens released the following statement this afternoon in response to reports that the President will order federal agencies <http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/74319.html>  to approve the southern part of the Keystone Pipeline from Cushing, Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast:

“I am pleased to see progress with the construction of a section of the Keystone Pipeline. This is a good step towards a project that will create jobs and enhance cooperation with trusted allies like Canada to meet America’s energy needs.  Conflict and demand overseas are driving up prices at the pump for commuters, farmers and families, and projects like the Keystone Pipeline have the potential to bring some relief.

“We need an all-of-the-above approach to energy security, and the Keystone pipeline is a move in the right direction. As TransCanada prepares to resubmit the plan for Presidential approval, I urge the White House to approve the entire project in full recognition of its potential for economic development and the opportunity to produce more energy here at home.”
