The Peru Gazette tours a haunted house

The Helping Hearts Haunted House Benefit for Christopher Goheens and Family opened its doors at 6 p.m. tonight.  The Peru Gazette was given a preview and we’re still shaking.  (Click here for photos) Everyone involved is doing a wonderful job! Everyone is invited to tour the Haunted House on October 21st and 22nd at St. Augustine’s in Peru, NY. The Haunted House will be open from 6pm-11pm both days with childrens games from 4pm-6pm on Saturday the 22nd. These games include a costume contest, pumpkin painting, cake walk, and bouncy house. There will be also be t-shirts available to purchase. The prices are $12.00 for short sleeve and $15.00 for long sleeve shirts. Access to the Haunted House is $5.00 per person. Rain or shine. So come on out for a family night of fun! Christopher Goheens is a 10 year old 5th grader at Peru Intermediate School. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Due to his heart condition Christopher has had to undergo numerous heart catheterizations and surgeries since his birth and will continue to need more procedures in the future.

WHAT: Members of Congressman Bill Owens’ staff will hold meetings with Upstate New Yorkers in Clinton, Jefferson, Madison, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties in an ongoing effort to increase constituent outreach. Multiple more events planned throughout New York’s 23rd Congressional district in the coming months.  Owens’ office has held more than 65 of these events throughout New York’s 23rd Congressional District this year.

Affordable Care Act provides Medicare recipients cheaper Rx, free preventive services


WASHINGTON – Congressman Bill Owens today announced Medicare’s Open Enrollment period that began this week and has been expanded to last seven weeks through Wednesday, December 7th.  The expanded enrollment period will give seniors and those with disabilities more time to compare and find the best plan that meets their needs.

“Thanks to the recent health care law, New Yorkers are seeing more options as they choose their health care plans,” said Owens. “Additionally, the Affordable Care Act is closing the Medicare Part D ‘donut hole’ for seniors and providing recipients free preventive services that keep them out of the hospital and lower the nation’s health care costs.” Read more »
