Respected, beloved Peru High School graduate (64), teacher, principal passes away

Christine L. (Seavey) Angevine, 75, of St. Augustine, Florida, formerly from Plattsburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022, surrounded by loved ones after an unrelenting battle with cancer.  She was born October 29, 1946, in Muskegon, MI, and attended Plattsburgh State University where she obtained a Master’s in Education and Administration.

Chris began as Special Education teacher at Peru Central School in Peru, NY, and later became an elementary school Principal until her retirement in 2009. She was a mentor, colleague, friend, role model, and tireless leader in her school community. Many described her as an unsung hero that made the children of Peru not only successful but most of all loved.

Throughout life, Chris loved to travel and share experiences with family and friends. She cherished family vacations, cheering on grandchildren at their sporting events, and treasured the relationships formed with friends. Her greatest joy was her family and she always gave unconditional love with encouragement. She lived what she believed by loving her family every day – “Say it, Feel it, Know it!”

She is survived by daughter, Katrina Krasinski and son-in-law, Robert; son, Travis Angevine, and daughter-in-love, Michelle; grandchildren, Rebekah Krasinski, Hannah Krasinski, Ty Angevine, and Robby Krasinski. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Suzanne Seavey, along with her sister, Sharron Seavey.

A Catholic burial mass will take place at Saint John Paul II, 127 Stone Mason Way, Ponte Vedra, FL, 32081, in the spring of 2022 to celebrate Chris’s life.

Rylee Desso earns dean’s list honors at The College of Saint Rose for fall 2021 semester

ALBANY, NY (01/07/2022)– Rylee Desso, of Peru, NY, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2021 semester at The College of Saint Rose. Desso is majoring in Early Childhood & Childhood Education: B-6.

Full-time undergraduate students who complete a minimum of 12 graded credit hours and who achieve a semester average of 3.5 without a D, F, or Incomplete are eligible for the dean’s list.

The College of Saint Rose (www.strose.edu) is a dynamic, progressive college in the heart of New York’s capital city where teaching is the first priority. The Saint Rose experience empowers students to improve themselves and the world around them.

Peru wrestling legend passes on the whistle

It’s one of the toughest sports to participate in,” said Gary Edwards, Peru wrestling head coach. “Some come out and they don’t last too long because it is too hard for them.”  A special athlete, takes a special coach. At 75 years young, Edwards has been the face of Peru wrestling for about five decades.

Regular Monthly School Board Meeting January 2022

The Peru CSD Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 6:00 PM in the High School Community Room.  It is anticipated that an executive session will take place immediately following the 6:00 PM start and that the Board will reconvene for public session business at approximately 7:00 PM.  

The meeting is open to the public and current District, County, State, and Federal COVID-19 safety procedures and protocols will be followed (including mask-wearing).

Anticipated topics include:

  • CCE PACE Program
  • Multi-Year Financial Plan
  • Construction Update
  • Personnel Appointments
  • Employee Assistance Program/Services

At this time, two (2) public comment opportunities are planned for this meeting as follows:

1st public comment:  Related to items on the agenda.  Comments are limited to three (3) minutes per speaker.

2nd public comment:  Comments are limited to three (3) minutes per speaker.

Individuals who are unable to attend in person may submit public comments by emailing perucomments@perucsd.org no later than 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, January 11th.  Online comments are also subject to the conditions stated above.

COVID-19 Test Kit Drive-Through Saturday morning at the Fire Station

The Town of Peru will be receiving an allotment of 200 iHome COVID 19 Self-test kits and masks for the residents of Peru from New York State.
This will be a drive-through pickup: January 8, 2022, 10 am until 12 PM NOON, unless supply runs out sooner.
Location: Peru Fire Department, 753 Bear Swamp Rd., Peru
• Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis,
• Masks are mandatory for everyone to protect our volunteers and the public.
• LIMIT ONE BOX OF TEST KITS AND (5) MASKS PER CAR

Clinton County has a new industrial development leader

January 6, 2022 – The County of Clinton Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) and the County of Clinton welcome Molly Ryan into the role of the Executive Director to the CCIDA and the Director of Economic Development for Clinton County. Molly Ryan was previously the Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Billy Jones and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the realm of economic development in the North Country Region.

“As a lifelong resident of Clinton County, I look forward to continuing to help the region, which I know and love as my home, continue to grow and flourish,” said Ryan. “As the Executive Director to the CCIDA/ Director for Economic Development for the county, I look forward to continuing to build relationships in the business community and with area stakeholders. These relationships are key to building bridges throughout the region to address workforce development and business expansion. Our area is in a strong position and I am excited to hit the ground running and bring more success stories to the North Country.”

For the last five years, Ryan served as Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Jones. During her tenure with the State Assembly, she focused on local legislative issues in areas of rural health, infrastructure and the local environment. In the district, she also worked with local community leaders, elected officials, and constituents to advance the economy of our region and ensure everyone had their voice heard.

“We are excited to have Molly Ryan on board at the CCIDA,” said Trent Trahan, Chairperson of the CCIDA /CCCRC Board of Directors. “Molly’s regional knowledge coupled with her experience in the private and public sector have given her a solid foundation to carry out the role of Executive Director for the CCIDA. I look forward to working with her and continuing to foster growth in Clinton County.”

Molly Ryan has a long career in public service, having previously worked as the Constituent Liaison for Congressman Bill Owens for almost five years. Additionally, she worked as the Community Outreach Manager as well as the Manager of Volunteer Services at the University of Vermont Health Network-Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Molly Ryan is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and resides in Rouses Point with her husband, and two children.
