Peru JCEO Foodshelf needs 8 more turkeys

The Gazette visited the Peru JCEO Foodshelf this morning and discovered that the foodshelf is short eight Thanksgiving turkeys. If more turkeys aren’t donated, eight families will have to look elsewhere. Can any of our readers help out? The turkeys average 10 to 15 pounds. The foodshelf is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located in the basement of the Peru Town Hall. The phone number is 643-8455.

Our foodshelf story will be posted in the next several hours. You’ll find it very uplifting!

More beautiful Mt. Kilimanjaro photos

About three weeks ago the Gazette published a story about Peru residents Joanne Kennedy and Lori Clark, Joanne’s daughter Jennie and four of their friends climbing Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro. Last week Mt. Kilimanjaro was in the national news when Ann Curry of the Today Show attempted to climb the mountain, but stopped short of the summit. Peru Hardware has been at the center of Peru for 60+ years

Peru Hardware at 2971 Main St. is undoubtedly one of our community’s oldest businesses. Percy and Lula Brown opened the store’s doors in 1946. Their son Doug and his wife Helen took over in 1963. In 1985 Doug and Helen’s daughter Wendy and her husband Bob Silverman purchased the business and operate it today. Read more »

Comfort Inn destroyed by fire

The Plattsburgh Comfort Inn and several businesses in the Comfort Inn complex were destroyed by fire on Saturday, November 15th. Peru resident Don McBrayer installs carpets for a living and he had just installed new carpet in 87 of the Inn’s 107 rooms. He snapped these photos on his cell phone. Plattsburgh Animal Hospital to open in Peru
